Your boat trip to the island of Gramvousa and then Balos starts from the port of Kissamos. The port is located approximately 41 kilometers south of the city of Chania. You can drive, take the bus or a taxi to get here. Either way, your trip should last for 45-50 minutes from Chania. In case you are traveling from Heraklion, Rethimno or Agios Nikolaos, be advised that the trip will be a little longer, but your arrival to Balos and Gramvousa will be worth your trouble.
Only if you take the early bus (bus of 8.30) from Chania Central Station you will be on time for the boat. The bus route lasts about one and a half hour. Also, take in mind that there is a bus at 6.15 to bring you back to Chania.
In case you drive to the port of Kissamos finding parking should not be a problem. There is a free parking lot in front of the port or you could park for free at many side roads close by.
Cruises to the island of Gramvousa and Balos take place during the summer season, meaning that you can visit them from May to October depending on the weather conditions.
In most cases the ferry departs every day. For your convenience we advise you to be at the port half an hour before the departure time. While at the port you may wait until your departure by the port.
While on board, rest, enjoy the Aegean Sea view, or have a meal. You may want to buy some food, bottled water or refreshments to have with you throughout the day. You can use your credit card onboard for your purchases.
For your convenience, please don’t forget to wear a hat, sunscreen and comfortable shoes. During the summer months temperatures can be really high.
